Anchorage alone has numerous parks, and now, there's a good way to get to recognize them. The Anchorage Park Basis has just rolled out a fresh playground guide that includes a checklist of park includes.
The booklet notes Dave Rose Park Playground includes apparatus that's appropriate for young children ages 2–5, while Balto Seppala Park's playground was created for older kids.
"It's almost like a brochure, " explained Beth Nordlund, account manager director of Anchorage Area Foundation.
It also indicates which form of turf each playground provides and gives it an "inclusive play" score — using "Level 1" being the best.
"That means everyone might play on that playground, including kids with afflictions, " said Nordlund, adding which includes grandparents, parents and caregivers that could have mobility issues.
Nordlund notes that most of the newer, rubber playground turf was created to make rolling a wheelchair close to equipment easier than more than wood chips.
"What we've also found is the fact parents and grandparents come entirely into the playground along with play, " Nordlund reported.
The printed version in the guide also includes information about special features such because seating areas, sledding mountains and skating at parks around town. It even notes that South Anchorage Sports Park Playground features a fenced dog park on the market.
Anchorage Park Foundation in addition has announced new playgrounds approaching soon, one of which can be an indoor playground with the Fairview Recreation Center. Nordlund says the indoor park needs to be open to the court around Thanksgiving.
